On behalf of the Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association (MIFA), I want to express our deep gratitude to the UMC Memphis Conference for the generous financial support you provide. MIFA's mission is helping change lives, and we do this by serving the poor. But far beyond simply meeting material needs, we provide hope and comfort which help our neighbors to live with independence and dignity. From its beginnings as an organization to coordinate the social ministries of congregations until the present, the spiritual basis of MIFA’s service has remained at the heart of what we do. Thank you for your financial support of our ministry and for your prayers. Linda Marks, Inter-Faith Coordinator

Small church makes a big impact
Cheryl Bone, Angel Food Minister of Outreach Mid-South wrote on 12/14/2009 4:51:17 PM
As the MO over this area, I can tell you that I am so proud of this small but growing church. Pastor David has a vision so big and a heart to match. The men and women who help him are dedicated all the way. I am so honored to work with so many UMC churches throughout the Mid-South (TN-AR-MS) and so humbled at their dedication and energy. The secular community is starting to take notice!

Inner city garden sprouts in Uptown Memphis
Marsha Dorgan wrote on 6/3/2009 9:02:23 AM
I am so proud of the way the United Methodist are fIling the needs of the stomach as well as the spirit in the communities. We need to continue to teach the least of these
that there is room in God's house for all and those that come will be fed, both in spirit and in food. What a blessing it is for me, an Agriculturalist to read that others are doing just that. Thanks be to God for all his BLESSINGS.
A dream takes shape in downtown Jackson
Marsha Dorgan wrote on 6/3/2009 8:44:22 AM
What a wonderful gift to those in need, a garden to help when times are tough. My husband, the late Dr. Mickey R. Capenter, former District Superientdent of both the Paris and Dyersburg Districts of the United Methodist Church had a saying, or a Mickeyism as some would say." Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach him to fish and feed him for a lifetime." By teaching these neighborhoods how to garden and having Victory gardens like back in the old days locally these people learn so much more than just food, they learn to be more community driven than just Me driven. We as United Methodist need to be forerunners in ways to help the local communities in their growth. There is more to being a church than just having the pews filled. It is out being with the Least Of These as Christ would do.Thanks for all those who helped make a difference to Madison county, Tn in the new garden project. In helping others, you will help yourself too...Thanks be to God.

Yea or Nay? Delegates talk about Constitutional Amendments
Chris Eaves wrote on 5/19/2009 1:02:25 PM
Questions about Amendment #1:
1.The current paragraph uses the words, "shall be eligible." That seems to indicate the person may be 'qualified,' but it doesn't mean they are 'accepted.' That still seems to leave the discretion with the minister or somebody. Is this right?
2.In the current paragraph, what does the word "status" mean?
Thank you for all responses.

Annice Shaw wrote on 3/31/2009 11:34:22 AM
Congratulations Kevin on your new appointment. You will make a wonderful DS. Journey is looking forward to working with you, especially since we share the same philosophy about seeking to be "living embodiments of the gospel beyond our four walls." I am getting ready to update our web site with April and May events, but please check out our home page. You'll be proud of what you read. The Lakeland community has started to recognize Journey as "the church that leaves the building." We get comments all the time on the T-shirts we wear as we serve our mission field. It is so exciting when someone stops you at the local Walmart to have a discussion with you about what the shirt means. It gives me chills just thinking about it. You were right about starting a new church being the most exciting time of our lives. I hope that as our new DS, we will have the opportunity to visit with you soon. The Journey congregation can't wait to share how passionate we are about our work in Lakeland with you. I know you are super busy with your new role in the district, but please check in on us as soon as you can. We have not seen you since August and would really love to share some things with you. Wishing yo the best! -Journey UMC
