Want to help Reelfoot Rural Ministries and have a beautiful keepsake to give as a Christmas present as well?
“Red” Bond, a member of Dyersburg First United Methodist Church and a well known leader of the Memphis Conference, is crafting paperweights out of carefully selected wood and golf balls.
“Can old golf balls be born again?” Bond asked with a laugh as he described the paperweights he’s selling for $10 to support Reelfoot Rural Ministries.
Bond said he can use special golf balls provided by customers or he can use one he already has. Some may want to use a ball with the United Methodist logo on it or may have a special ball––such as one saved after a hole-in-one–that they want to commemorate.
The walnut bases are weighted with birdshot to give them heft.
To place your order, call the Dyersburg District at 731-285-1066.
Editor’s note: Red just celebrated his 90th birthday. “I’ve never been hugged by so many women!” he said. “I should have a 90th birthday every year!”
