Reelfoot Rural Ministries gets letters from the people who come to the Christmas Toy Store.
Heather wrote: “I have had surgery, and I am not able to work this Christmas. My husband is doing all he can do to make ends meet. My grandparents also help pay our electric for us. It’s really hard when you are not able to do the things you want for your kids, so in my eyes, everyone who donates are angels sent to us from above. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!”
Sabrina wrote: “I am a mother of two girls. Also, I am eight months pregnant with a little boy. I live on less than $375 a month, and I lost my job a few months ago. Now, no one will hire me because of how far along I am. My daughters would not have much to open up on Christmas if not for this program. Thank you.”
These two expressions are among hundreds of written testimonies from last year’s Christmas Toy Store.
Last Christmas, 1,857 children (includes 815 families and 253 teens) received toys through our Toy Store. Parents pay $2 to “buy” 5 new toys for each eligible child–but not over $10 per family.
Observing the growing need, I expect the number of applications to shop at our Toy Store to increase immensely this year.
We invite you to be a part of this way of celebrating the Savior’s birth by collecting new toys and delivering them to Reelfoot by December 1.
We are open for delivery Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. (except Thursday and Friday of the Thanksgiving Holiday). Also, we are open Saturday, December 5, from 8:00 A.M. until 12:30 P.M. for last minute deliveries.
Volunteers are needed for setup from November 30 through December 5 and to help during the Toy Store, December 7-11.
To volunteer, please call Susan Dozier, Children Services Director, (731-253-8004) or our office complex.
Please remember:
• Don’t remove price tags from toys.
• Don’t wrap toys or senior gifts.
• Cut out “bar codes” if possible without defacing the item.
Additionally this Christmas, we will provide 75-80 senior participants with a food box and personal gift. If each church includes one or two gifts for our senior adults with your toy delivery, we will have a sufficient number of senior gifts.
