The Church Vitality and Revitalization Team identifies and focuses on “best principles and practices” to be applied for vital ministry—providing resources, facilitating networking, and implementing training for local churches of all sizes and locations. The Director of Connectional Ministries works closely with “resource coordinators” on the team to specifically address issues related to the health and vitality of specific church sizes and settings.

 

 The specific types of congregations in the Memphis Annual Conference as of 2009 are: 

 

Family-size congregations of 10-50 worshippers                   (265 in MAC 61%)

Pastoral-size congregations of 51-150 worshippers              (117 in MAC 27%)

Program-size congregations of 151-300 worshippers           (35 in MAC      8%)

Large-size congregations of 300+ worshippers                      (15 in MAC     3%)

Ethnically Distinctive Congregations

 

As we move through 2009, emphasis will be placed on assessing the healthiness of local congregations, identifying helpful tools to clarify ministry strengths, weaknesses and opportunities, and empowering local church leaders to develop a plan for greater vitality and fruitfulness in ministry. Best principals and practices for application in local churches will be shared through a collaborative effort of the Director of Connectional Ministries, District Superintendents, District Lay Leaders and District Lay Resource Leaders.

 

In 2009, watch for gatherings of local churches by size to share information about "what's working in ministry" and what the challenges are we face as a specific size congregation.
