I'm a native of West Tennessee who has also enjoyed living in many other parts of the country. After graduating from Jackson's Northside High School, I went on to graduate from UT-Knoxville where I was a member of the 1967 National Championship Football Team. I served as a graduate assistant under then-Head Coach Bill Battle and went from there to coaching positions at Morehead State University, Ottawa University, Kansas University and the Los Angeles Express in the USFL. I ended my coaching career at UT-Martin after taking the 1988 team to the national playoffs. Twelve years ago, I returned to Jackson to pursue a career as a stockbroker and banker and was later elected to one term in the Tennessee State Senate.

My wife Mary Carolyn and I built a home on our family farm and moved our church membership back to my home church, Harris Grove UMC. We've been married for 40 years and have three children, Matt McLeary, Stacy Stidham and Holly Kimbrough, and six grandchildren, Landry, Nolan, Nash, Maston, Brandon and Blake. Another member of the McLeary family is our French mastiff, Bailey.
