The Memphis Conference of the United Methodist Church covers West Tennessee and Western Kentucky. It includes seven districts with 426 churches and more than 82,000 members.
The districts are: Asbury, Brownsville, Dyersburg, Jackson, McKendree, Paducah and Paris.
The Memphis Conference is home to Lakeshore Summer Camp & Retreat Center. Its agencies include Hannah’s Hope, Reelfoot Rural Ministries, United Methodist Neighborhood Centers and Western Kentucky United Methodist Family Services.
College campus ministries are located at Murray State University, University of Memphis, University of Memphis - Lambuth Campus, and University of Tennessee at Martin.
The Memphis Conference and neighboring Tennessee Conference in middle Tennessee together make up the Nashville Episcopal Area of the United Methodist Church. Bishop Bill McAlilly was elected bishop and assigned to the Nashville Episcopal Area in 2012.
The Memphis Conference office and archives are located in Jackson, Tenn. The Episcopal office is located in Nashville, Tenn.
Every year, historically in June, laity and clergy of the Memphis Conference gather for business and worship at an event called the Memphis Annual Conference.
There are currently 59 conferences in the U.S. under the supervision of 46 bishops.There are 74 conferences outside the U.S. (called the Central Conferences) under the supervision of 20 bishops.
